A Texas homeowner was charged with two counts of tampering with government property after police discovered a solar light shining into the yard of his home, authorities said.
Authorities with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement that the homeowner was arrested Friday in connection with a July 29 incident that resulted in an investigation of a possible breach of public safety.
The homeowner was accused of setting up a solar system on the roof of his residence and installing solar panels that were not properly installed, officials said.
The incident began when a resident noticed a light shining on his roof, and when he approached it, he found a panel that was not properly connected to the grid.
The panels were causing excessive heat and noise, the district attorney’s office said.
A video that was captured of the incident shows the homeowner standing behind a tree that has a solar panel in it.
He said he installed the solar panel and then removed the panels to install solar panels elsewhere.
The homeowner was not charged with any crime, and he is scheduled to appear in court next week.
